Can Turmeric Help Relieve Arthritis Symptoms?

This blog post will focus on a relatively unknown fact about turmeric, namely the fact that turmeric can help relieve arthritis in some cases. Most people are already very familiar with the health food product turmeric, which has been used medicinally for thousands of years.  Turmeric has become much more well-known recently and is recognized for its anti-inflammatory properties.  New studies are continuously being conducted to see how versatile turmeric is and whether it can treat other diseases.  In this blog post, we will focus on how turmeric, as a part of a healthy diet, may be able to help relieve arthritis symptoms.

How Turmeric Can Relieve Arthritis Symptoms

It is not uncommon for people suffering from arthritis to alter their diet in order to relieve arthritis symptoms.  When doing so, consumers will focus on diets that help fight inflammation and improve joint symptoms.  Enter turmeric.   Turmeric is gaining more traction as one of the best anti-inflammatory health food products and is well known for its ability to provide relief for numerous health issues.  Turmeric is a very convenient health food product that can be easily used as a spice in the kitchen.  Furthermore, turmeric supplements are widely available online, which makes it very easy for someone to consume a high dose of turmeric. Doctors currently recommend consuming 500mg of turmeric twice on a daily basis to help improve one’s health.

Antioxidant Properties

The antioxidant and anti-inflammatory characteristics of turmeric have made turmeric very popular as a health product for athletes and other active people. Notably, turmeric can help relieve soreness and exercise-induced inflammation, which is a bonus for athletes. Consuming turmeric may also help relieve symptoms of arthritis, such as joint swelling and morning stiffness. Turmeric can serve as a natural pain reliever in some cases and can even help relieve minor injuries. So it is no surprise that research is being conducted to see if turmeric could significantly relieve arthritis symptoms

Knee osteoarthritis

Harvard Health also noted a new study about the impact of turmeric on people suffering from knee osteoarthritis.  In this study, a group of 139 people was either given NSAID diclofenac or turmeric.  Notably, people reported fewer gastrointestinal side effects and also experienced some relief from their symptoms after consuming turmeric.  This relief included the reduction of the symptoms of pain, as well as other symptoms. These initial findings are very encouraging, given that knee osteoarthritis is the most common joint disorder in the United States.

More Research Needed

It is not completely clear to what extent turmeric can help relieve arthritis symptoms, although it is clear that turmeric does provide meaningful benefits in some cases.  There is enough research to indicate its anti-inflammatory characteristics and how these could prove to be useful for aiding people with various health conditions, including arthritis.  It is worthwhile to consider the health benefits of turmeric and to talk to your doctor to see if turmeric can help relieve your arthritis symptoms.  It may also be more useful to consider the benefits of consuming turmeric supplements, in addition to turmeric in the powder form, for a stronger effect.  Studies show that it is best to consume 500mg-2,000mg of turmeric per day, which is equivalent to up to 10 teaspoons of turmeric.

Market Growth Potential is Ample

Turmeric is beginning to gain traction as a relevant health food product with practical pharmaceutical purposes as well.  Turmeric will likely increasingly be used for pharmaceutical purposes, rather than for food/cosmetics according to research from Grand View Research.  If you are struggling with arthritis, adding turmeric to your diet may help relieve arthritis symptoms.
